**NOTE** 

                  This walkthrough is for setting up an Allworx system for use on a network, with the intention of using the Allworx on a PUBLIC IP to act as a DHCP server for any devices connected to it. 

 

1)      Connect the windows machine DIRECTLY to the LAN port of the Allworx machine.  (**NOTE**  Windows 98 is NOT supported)

 

2)      On your windows machine, Click on the “Start button”

 

3)      Click “Run”

 

4)      Type in the text field “CMD”, and hit enter.  A DOS window should pop-up.

 

5)      Type “ipconfig –release” (There is a SPACE between the g and the - ). Hit enter.

 

6)      After receiving a new prompt type in “ipconfig –renew” (There is a SPACE between the g and the - ). Hit enter.

 

7)      Look for the following information:  “IP Address” and “Default Gateway”.  Both should have a format of 192.168.x.x  . 

 

8)      Open up an internet browser window.

 

9)      Locate the Default Gateway address and enter it in to the address bar by typing in “http://192.168.x.x”. Hit Enter.  You should see an Allworx login window. 

 

10)    In the text field type in the administrator password, the default is “admin” (case sensitive).

 

11)    On the far left side of the browser click on “Network” and then in the sub link that opens up click on “Security”.

 

12)    In the Table marked “Security”, find the row labeled “Allworx Network Mode”.  If its current value is “NAT/Firewall” proceed to step 13.  IF it is NOT, click on the link marked “Modify”.  In the “Allworx Network Mode” pull down menu select “NAT/Firewall”.  Click on the “Update” button.

 

13)    On the far left side of the browser click on “Network” and then in the sub link that opens up click on “Addresses”.

 

14)    Click on “modify”.

 

**NOTE**

            If your ISP uses DHCP to assign you a PUBLIC IP address, continue to step 14d-1. 

            If your ISP assigns you a static PUBLIC IP address, skip to step 14s-1.

 

14d-1) Select the “Use a DHCP Server” radio button.  Click “Update”.

 

14d-2) On the left side of the browser click on the “Maintenance” link.  Then click on the “Restart” sub link that appears.

 

14d-3) Select the “Normal Restart” radio button.

 

14d-4) Click OK at the prompt.

 

14d-5) Enter in the text into the text field that the prompt asks for.   Click OK.  Proceed to Step 15.

 

14s-1) Select the “Use Static settings:” radio button.

 

14s-2) Input the IP address that the Allworx will be using in to the “WAN TCP/IP Address” text field. 

 

14s-3) Select the appropriate subnet mask in the “WAN Subnet Mask” field. 

 

14s-4) Input the IP address of the gateway the Allworx will be using for the internet in the “WAN Gateway” text field.

 

14s-5) Click Update.

 

14s-6) On the left side of the browser click on the “Servers” link.  Then click on the “DNS Server” sub link that appears.

 

14s-7) Click on the “Modify” link.

 

14s-8) Select the “Normal” radio button.

 

14s-9)  Enter in the “Primary DNS Server” and “Secondary DNS Server” information, provided by your ISP, in their appropriate fields.

 

14s-10) Click “Update”.

 

14s-11) On the left side of the browser click on the “Maintenance” link.  Then click on the “Restart” sub link that appears.

 

14s-12) Select the “Normal Restart” radio button.

 

14s-13) Click OK at the prompt.

 

14s-14) Enter in the text into the text field that the prompt asks for.   Click OK.  Proceed to Step 15.

 

15)    Wait at least 1 minute before continuing.

 

16)    Repeat steps 2-10.

 

17)    On the left side of the browser click on “Network” and then on the sub link “Addresses” that pops up underneath it.

 

18)    Verify that you now have a “WAN TCP/IP Address” and “WAN Gateway”.  Make a note of these for future reference.
